Llanwrtyd Wells
On the official website about Llanwrtyd Wells it states that the town lies in one of the last remaining great wilderness areas in Great Britain - not sure if this is the case, but the area around Llanwrtyd Wells is stunningly beautiful. Lying on the river Irfon, Llanwrtyed Wells with its forests, hidden valleys, mountains has a landscape rarely matched in diversity and beauty, providing habitats for some rare species of flora and fauna.
Llanwrtyd Wells grew as a spa town, based around the Ffynon Droellwyd spring and some other mineral springs in the area. The town was also known as an eisteddfod site, and is the site of both the World Bog Snorkelling Championships and the annual Man versus Horse Marathon, as well as many other annual events. It was in 1979, when the Tourist Association of Llanwrtyd Wells was started to improve the local economy by organising unique events within the town and surrounding area. The prime objective was to organise a new event each year. Today, most events are organised by Greent Events Ltd, a non profit making company.
